Shannon Vallor is the Baillie Gifford Professor in the Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh, where she directs the Centre for Technomoral Futures at the Edinburgh Futures Institute.

Her book Technology and the Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting (Oxford University Press) draws from global traditions of virtue ethics—Aristotelian, Confucian, and Buddhist—to guide responsible innovation in an age of rapid technological change.

Vallor’s work offers a compelling ethical foundation for understanding how AI is reshaping not only what we can do, but who we are becoming. Through her concept of “technomoral virtues,” she invites audiences to consider how ancient ethical traditions can inform our responses to contemporary technological challenges.
